Let me introduce myself...
Hello and thank you for visiting Divorce Care SKA!
I'm Shatera, the second oldest of four, a mom, an author, and someone you can lean on during your divorce "wilderness" season.
I moved to Houston with my husband of 10 years, excited about the fresh start for our family. Our marriage had been challenging from the beginning, so this move back to the same city as his family and childhood friends seemed like the start of a new, better season.
But any hope I had for my marriage ended abruptly before the boxes were even unpacked. My marriage was disintegrating, and I was in a new city with no family or friends to lean on.
I attended Lakewood Church and their Divorce Care program saved me. I listened to others share how they managed the BIG emotions and the stress that came with starting over. And I slowly processed my own grief and came out of the fog.
I love the Divorce Care program so much that I became the ministry leader when the opportunity was presented and wrote the curriculum that we now use.
I would have NEVER thought divorce would be a part of my story, but God's ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8), and sometimes out of your pain, your purpose is birthed.
Divorce is NOT the end of your life! It is just an event that happened in your life. This can be the beginning of a stronger, wiser, better version of you, if you want it to be. God is not mad at you because your marriage failed. He is waiting for you to release the guilt, hurt, and shame so you can live the life He has planned for you.
